Iris Season

Here in our new yard, it's Iris Season.   Our front yard is full of large clumps of German Bearded Iris.

Unfortunately, we don't know any of the variety names.  But we like this purple and white and lavender one a lot.

These two clumps just started blooming, and it looks like there are a lot of blooms yet to come.

There is a large mixture of four different colors in the front center of the yard.  All four varieties are in peak bloom right now.

This yellow one is bright and clear, an adds a great punch of color to the mixture.

This multi-colored variety was the first to bloom, over two weeks ago.  It's still going strong!

I think this soft peach variety is so pretty!

This white variety is papery thin and delicate - just beautiful!

There really is a nice mixture of colors in this large clump

Thanks so much for stopping by our home during peak Iris Season.

    1. Thanks Christine. I guess it's more the norm than not, most folks inherit plants without knowing the names of things. That's one of the outcomes of sharing plants, moving into a new house, etc. etc. It's fun, though, and I guess we could always just make up our own names for things, right? As long as we don't try to talk about those made-up names with other gardeners. ;-)

  3. For some reason I don't have very many iris's that look like they will get blooms - just the greens. Many that showed buds have been snapped in half by slugs - I see I will get a few blooms, but not what I was expecting. hummmm? any suggestions would be great! oxox, tracie

ps - thanks for linking up to Fishtail Cottage's garden party!

    1. Hmm, that's strange. I'm not an expert, but my first guess would be that they need to be divided. Sometimes if the clump gets too big, it will slow down on flowers. another idea - are they getting at least 6 hrs of sun per day? After that, I'm stumped! Good luck!
