Artwork of Iron & Wood

I found this pretty iron and wood artwork at Michael's last week, and picked it up.  I'm a sucker for scrollwork pieces, and I've been looking for some large wall pieces for our new home for quite some time.   So when I saw this one for 50% off, I went for it.

I love the soft, feminine curves combined with the square outline.  I love the color of the wood, which coincidentally and miraculously matches our new wall color perfectly. I love that the color of the wall and the color of the wood look almost the same shade, which makes the wooden part blend in rather than being a strikingly different color on the wall.

I like the rusty metal too - just a little bit rustic, but not too much.

When I bought this piece, I had this spot in mind for it - at the bottom of our stairs, in the living room, on a blank wall.  I still haven't found the right curtain panels for these windows, and so the wall is very bare and needed some interest.  (My yet-to-be-implemented vision for this room includes slipcovers for the two chairs, a white slipcover on the sofa during the summer months, and soft tie-back curtain panels on the windows that have a soft barely-there pattern to them.)

I like the iron and wood artwork on this wall.

But then when I went upstairs to do some laundry, I noticed a bare wall above the bookshelf at the top landing, and thought the piece would look good there too.

Yep, this is a nice place for it too.    I used to have a fall berry wreath here, then a piece of Christmas artwork, but since after Christmas it's been a blank wall again.  This piece looks nice here and really gives a great focal point when you come up the stairs.  It would be visible from the front foyer here as well.

But I like it in the living room too.   It really draws your eye and make the room look more "finished".

But, I don't know, it looks great upstairs too.

Which would you choose?   The living room...

... or the upstairs hall?

Please leave me a comment and let me know which spot you'd pick!

  1. Hey. Found your post at Ivy and Elephants. I think it makes a bigger impact in the living room. How nice that it matches your paint color!
