Christmas Cookies

When my daughter arrived home from college yesterday, one of the first things she said was that she wanted to make Christmas sugar cookies this weekend.  So of course we had to do it!!!

We used the "Vanilla Variation" recipe for cookie dough which can be found here on LilaLoa.com, and we used a buttercream frosting recipe which can be found here on www.shemakesahome.com.   The cookie dough is really yummy, and best of all in my opinion, it stays nice and soft after it's baked.  The buttercream is yummy too, and together they make a cookie that tastes just like a Christmas cooke should taste!

My daughter and I have a lot of fun with this.  We're not going to win any decorating contests any time soon, but oh my gosh we have fun talking and being a little silly while we're spending this time together.  We end up with some traditional cookies, and some more "creative" offerings.  And it's always time well spent.

Without much further explanation, I think I'll just post a gallery of our cookie art.  If a cookie here or there doesn't seem to make sense, that's ok.  We had a lot of fun, and that's what counts.

It wouldn't be Christmas without a baseball.  ????

Somehow this toy soldier ended up looking like one of the Village People. ???

Here in the sunny South, we're enjoying 75 degree days.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

  1. One of my favorite memories of childhood holidays was baking cutout cookies and then sitting around the kitchen table icing them. My sister and brothers and I would spend hours decorating the cookies. In recent years I've had the honor of baking and decorating Christmas cookies with a friend and her grandchildren. It's touching to see that you and your daughter obviously love this tradition.
    Merry Christmas! ~ Sarah
