So Many Projects, So Little Time!

I've got what seems like a million projects in some stage of completeness, though most of them are still in the "concept" stage.  Today, though, I've made significant progress on three different projects.  I thought I'd give a little sneak peek into what's been happening around the Harris house lately.

Happy Tuesday 2/2014 - Using Souvenirs As Home Decor

Welcome to the second Happy Tuesday of 2014!

I love to travel, and have been fortunate to visit some wonderful places around the US and around the world.  It makes me really happy to display souvenirs from my travels around our home. There are a lot of ways that can be done, but today I'd like to share one of the ways that I incorporate travel mementos into our home decor.

My Project To-Do List for 2014

I'm excited to get started on some projects around the house now that the holiday season is over and (mostly) cleaned up and packed away.   The blogs that I visit have inspired so many ideas, and then there's Pinterest that always seems to lead me down a path of "I could do that!".   Here are some of the projects, both large and small, that I'd like to tackle in the coming months:

Making Your Own Photo Shoot Light Box

I'm starting an ambitious project this year.  I'd like to take photographs of all of my (hundreds of) Christmas ornaments, and then have a photo book made of all the photos, including the stories of where the ornaments came from.  To get high quality photos, I needed a photo shoot light box.  I could have bought one, but why not make one?  The great thing about this is that I didn't have to buy anything - I had everything I need already on hand.  In this post I'll try to share how I went about it (though I forgot to take step-by-step photos as I went along, sorry).

My Best Decorating Trick This Year

This year I found a new trick for putting together our Christmas decorations this year.  It all began when I read a post on Tinsel & Co's blog about how to decorate a tree.  She recommended using green pipe cleaners to hang ornaments, so that you don't end up with stringy-looking wires all over your tree.  After having read that tip, but before I started decorating, I found a cool thing at the Dollar Tree.

Table Runner Craft Project

I am planning this year to decorate the kitchen in a "peppermint" theme.  Every year when I choose a theme, I try to do it in a way that doesn't break the bank.  Who can spend a ton of cash just to change things up every year?  Not me!

So to start off my peppermint theme kitchen, I decided to make a table runner.  Well, that's not really how it happened.  I was wandering the aisles of Walmart last week, and found this vinyl tablecloth that was peppermint striped, and I thought "Hey! I can use that in the kitchen!"  But then I thought that a whole table full of peppermint stripes might be visually overwhelming.  So then I thought "why not cut it apart and make a table runner?" Bingo!
