Gardening

I've been an amateur gardener since I was in college.  Way back then, my husband and I would watch "The Victory Garden" on public television on Saturday mornings as we did our laundry and caught up on homework for the next week of class, and we'd dream about the home we'd someday have and the yard we'd work in together.  We didn't actually have any gardens of our own until the day we bought our first house in 1991.   I couldn't wait to get my hands in the dirt and try out all the things I saw on TV and in magazines.  Better Homes & Gardens was my favorite "dream book", followed soon by Southern Living.  HGTV was my go-to TV habit.

Over the years, I've tried a lot of things, and mostly learned by trial and error what works and what doesn't work.  I'm still just an amateur, though I'm still learning all the time.

These days we call Raleigh, NC home.  We are in Zone 7b / 8a, depending on which part of the yard we're talking about.   We've been here only since Fall 2013, but in that short time I've already been learning the hard way that gardening here in NC is as much about how hot it gets in the summer as it is about how cold it gets in the winter.  I'm sure there are lots of lessons to be learned here, and I can't wait to make the yard "ours."  Thanks for stopping by!
